Love this post. It's heartbreaking. Sorry you had to go through that. It's crazy, some of the stories I hear, the betrayal is always from the "best friend"
I can see why growing up, my parents always told me that just because someone is your best friend, doesn't meant they'll not betray you. They know you best, your weak points, etc. Easy for them to exploit if they want to. And those betrayals hurt so bad. Sometimes even more so than romantic relationships.
An issue full of sincerity and inspiration. Not only in the sense that it is capable of inspiring, but also that I felt, as a reader, how inspired you were at the moment you wrote it. It reminded me a little of my recent issue 'Why I Love Reading Papers' and how I felt while writing and rereading it. First of all, thank you for putting this personal perspective at the center which in my opinion is truly valuable for every reader and accompanies reading in a unique way; on the other hand, the effort you made in explaining in a rational and at the same time personal way why you believe in the study of humans and (generalizing) in the social sciences is very beautiful. It's something I relate to.
Kudos to you who came out of that n become stronger! 👍💪👏🙌🫡
Been through betrayal as well, both closest person n a stranger! But guess what, the person closest who betrayed me helped me overcome my losses to a stranger. 🤷♀️
That's when I totally let go of everything. No more hurt n pain, just peacefulness! 🙏😊
This happened to me, but I was targeted as an adult by a career con man with a long game. Lasted for 4 years before I figured it out, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless other relationships. I went back into my behavioral science trained background to find out how I could have let this happen and it awakened all of the same desires - to understand humans. Bravo for turning something negative into something so positive for yourself. ❤️🙏🏻
Hey Jennie, I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. 🙁
I understand that it's deeply hurtful when someone so close to you betrays your trust like that, let alone that's your sister. I admire your strength in moving forward despite such a painful betrayal is truly inspiring. It's a reminder that even in our darkest times, we can find resilience and continue to grow.
Sharing your story helps others see they are not alone in their struggles.
Jennie, thank you for your bravery and for reminding us that we can overcome even the toughest challenges. 🧡

Your parents are wise, Kathy. I wish I heard that sooner. Thank you for sharing your wisdom too 🥲
Yah I always thought it was bullshit at a young age. The older I got, I realized they were right.
Beautiful post, love it!
I have a similar story. I know it hurts like a motherfucker but it made us who we are. And that's pretty great people 😉
Indeed Maggie!!
